Studies show that social isolation in the aging has a profoundly negative effect on longevity, as well as physical and mental health.
Social isolation and loneliness are linked to higher risks of physical and mental conditions, including: high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and weakened immune systems, resulting in an inability to effectively fight off viruses, anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s and early death.
Conversely, people who engage in activities with others tend to live longer, enjoy a boost to their mood and morale, and enjoy a greater sense of joy and purpose.
